A luxury trip on a cruise through the Amazon | Our experience

It is true that there are many cruise trips around the world, but I think there are few that offer such quality and at an excellent price. I was always very hesitant about traveling to very exotic places, my wife Jannett encouraged me to make a decision and go on a trip to a place we had never traveled and found by chance, while looking for trips on luxury cruises , an advertisement promoting a cruise on the Amazon River.

I don't know much about geography, but I understand that the Amazon is located in the jungle of Peru, a country that I now love with all my heart and that changed my life and perspective of things forever.

Immediately upon seeing the ad we began researching the experience of this cruise. According to its Google file, we found many positive comments and some that even gave details that made the option more interesting to be able to take it. The photos of the tourists in the middle of a shaman ritual and sharing typical drinks with the tribes was something I had never seen in my entire life. All this added to his videos on Youtube where he shows what you can experience traveling to the jungle was what convinced me and my wife to travel.

Travel to Peru

The Peruvian country was one of those that suffered the most from the Coronavirus, so there are still some remnants of this disease. Currently the majority of the population is vaccinated; however, the government of Peru asks all its visitors to enter with a mask and with some proof of having been vaccinated with at least 2 doses, no matter the brand, but one must arrive vaccinated. In addition to having your passport up to date, you must also present a record of where you are going to stay.

Flights to Iquitos

Currently there is no direct flight from the United States to Iquitos, so we decided to travel first to Lima to learn a little more about the capital of Lima and then be able to fly to the Peruvian jungle.

Lima is a charming city; The Peruvian capital has various very beautiful and really cheap attractions that will make your stay very pleasant.

During the 4 days we were in Lima, we rented an apartment in the Miraflores district through the Airbnb platform. The experience was phenomenal and above all what surprised us the most was having absolutely everything close to one. In other words, if you want to go to the beach you have it 5 minutes away, if you want to go have a drink in a bar you have it 5 minutes away, if you want to eat at luxury restaurants you have it 5 minutes away, everything is very close in Lima and that is something that surprises us North Americans a lot, it is really incredible how close everything is in Lima. In addition, it is a luxury for us to be able to wake up and see the horizon of the beach.

Travel to Iquitos

We bought a ticket from Lima to Iquitos for a little less than 60 dollars round trip, something quite cheap, to tell the truth; however, they recommended us to go to Cusco earlier, but due to time we couldn't do it (although we'll be back soon, Cusco, I promise!) in order to have more experience of the wonderful Peruvian country (in addition, there is already a flight route from Cusco to Iquitos that lasts 1 hour, it's impressive).

The arrival was quite satisfactory and with an excellent service inside the plane. Iquitos airport is quite small and rustic; however, we understood that this type of airport cannot be expanded because it would take part of the jungle and here in Peru natural environments are highly respected because in addition to giving life to the country and being part of world culture, it is home to tens of thousands of animals.

JEX received us with a sign and we immediately saw them, after personally meeting the company's work team, we were transferred to a van that took us directly to the cruise ship that was in the Amazon River port. And of course, here comes the best part of our entire review.

All about the famous Amazon luxury cruise

"This is real?" It was the first thing that I and Jannett thought when seeing with our own eyes a giant and so beautiful cruise ship in the middle of the famous Amazon River Cruise. With a gigantic infrastructure and details that make you fall in love with your eyes, I must say that the Zafiro is one of the best cruise ships I've ever seen.

Inside, the facilities are top-notch, the rooms are spacious and beautiful, as shown on the company's website. The food dishes were first class and it is also exquisite to try typical food from the Jungle. The fish (trout) or the natural fruit cocktails (pisco sour) will remain on my palate forever.

Sunrise every day with the view of the Amazon River is something that left us speechless, trying food that you would never imagine having in front of me and meeting the most beautiful animals on the planet made my experience the best.
